As long as they’re around, Flash Player will exist. Just as Windows XP has stuck around for 10 years, the PCs and operating systems of today have a long life ahead of them. As mobile and desktop platforms merge, Flash Player will get overtaken. The things Adobe is working on for desktops–advanced 3D gaming and premium copy-protected video–already exist in mobile through native apps and HTML5.

As GigaOM’s Erica Ogg points out, that may be the main reason Adobe is pulling away from Flash now.Īdobe seems optimistic that it can do great things with desktop Flash Player, including hardware accelerated gaming and premium HD video, but all Adobe is really doing is hanging onto a stagnant market. This touch-friendly side of Windows includes a version of Internet Explorer that doesn’t run Adobe Flash. Within a year, Microsoft will likely launch Windows 8, which will feature a tablet-optimized interface and support for ARM-based processors.

AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF ADOBE WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE FOR SUCH LIMIED PURPOSES, WHAT CAN I INSTALL TO CONTINUE USING ADOBE FOR THESE VERY LIMITED PURPOSES, I.E, VIEWING MY TAX RETURNS AND/OR VIEWING MY BANK STATEMENTS.

I would not be doing any work with or on Adobe at all, simply using it to view these limited documents that require Adobe to view and sometimes to print them out from my computer. If Flash Player installation is handled by Windows Update, the Flash Player library is usually updated to the latest end-of-life version and along with its registry records protected from deletion with TrustedInstaller.

My questiton is very simple: If I leave Adobe flash on my Windows 7 computer, after the Adobe flash is discontinued in early 2021, will I still be able to use Adobe flash simply to view these limited and/or print these type of documents, such as my bank statements and/or tax returns. I understand that Adobe flash will be discontinued by very early 2021. I don't use it at all to create or work on any documents. I only use it for very specified and very limited purposes, in particular, to view PDFs such as my bank statements and tax returns which I download on my computer. The technology and workflow choices that are right for you are going to be largely dependent on your curriculum and the needs of your students. I have Adobe flash on my computer which is Windows 7. While we're well aware that Flash Builder and Animate CC are great tools for building games, as you've noted, Flash Player is going away. In keeping with this plan, Microsoft is ending support for Adobe Flash on Microsoft Edge (both Chromium-based and legacy) and Internet Explorer 11 at the end of 2020. In July 2017, Microsoft, Adobe, and their industry technology partners, announced this decision. There's a well established playbook, and most of the big virtualization vendors have solutions. Adobe Flash Player will reach the end of support on December 31, 2020. This is typically an expensive and cumbersome option, but it's not unusual for enterprises to need to maintain and secure support to legacy systems. The whitelist would be helpful in risk reduction here, but since most browsers will remove the supporting APIs, you'd need to encapsulate a working configuration and secure it appropriately. UPDATE: Adobe Flash Player end of support on DecemMicrosoft Lifecycle Microsoft Docs.
